Cynthia “Cindy” Ann Burns is now dancing in the streets of Heaven. Our beloved wife, mother, Grammy, daughter, sister, and friend passed peacefully on Thursday, April 16, 2026, surrounded by her devoted husband of 54 years, Rocky Burns, along with family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Love Like Lisa Legacy Foundation and the family will honor Cindy by awarding a scholarship in her beautiful name.
Through her faith, she was made whole again and is now joyfully reunited in Heaven with her father, Freddie Lee Henning; her daughter, Lisa Marie; her brother, Johnny Wade; and many other cherished loved ones who went before her.
Cindy was born on January 30, 1954, to Freddie Lee and Mary Magdalena Deckert Henning. She was a lifelong resident of Beach City, Texas, where she married her high school sweetheart, Rocky—the love of her life and very best friend. Together, they built a beautiful life, raising three children and later sharing their love with nine grandchildren, and their first great-grandchild expected in September.
Cindy was a cornerstone of her community and loved by all who knew her. Many affectionately considered her a second mom or “Grammy.” She found great joy in attending sporting events and activities, always cheering on her grandchildren and their friends.
She dedicated over 20 years of service as a bus driver for Barbers Hill ISD. One of her proudest accomplishments was establishing the first drill team at Barbers Hill, the Eaglets, alongside her lifelong best friend, Karrell Hargrave. Cindy retired when she became a Grammy, embracing her dream of caring for and supporting her grandchildren.
Cindy had a true green thumb and lovingly cared for many beautiful plants and flowers that adorned her home. Some of her most cherished plants were grown from cuttings passed down from her grandmother, treasures she nurtured for years and proudly shared with family and friends. She also decorated her flower beds with petrified rocks and wood collected over the years with her father, adding even deeper meaning to the space she created. In retirement, she enjoyed raising chickens and spending time outdoors. She also loved traveling with Rocky, especially camping along the Guadalupe River with loved ones, and never passed up an opportunity to stop at a casino, where you could often find her at the slot machines with friends.
While Cindy had many loves in her life, her greatest was Rocky. 54 years of marriage is a true testament to enduring love and partnership. Rarely seen apart, they inspired many young couples who looked at them as mentors.
Cindy lived with a grateful heart and often spoke of how blessed she was. She recognized God’s hand in every part of her life—in her marriage, her family, and the community she cherished. She found joy in life’s simplest moments. She was deeply passionate about her faith and made it a priority that her children and grandchildren knew Christ.
Cindy was a devoted member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where she served with the Catholic Daughters and taught CCE. Her life was deeply rooted in her faith, which she lived daily through kindness, compassion, and a servant’s heart. She was a spiritual role model to many, leading by example and teaching the importance of faith and trust in God. Through her years of service, teaching CCE, mentoring, and hosting church youth camps, she helped shape the faith of countless children and families. She was lovingly known as “Mrs. B” by the many children whose lives she touched. Cindy’s faith was not only something she held close, but something she freely shared, leaving a legacy of love and devotion that will continue to inspire all who knew and loved her.
Cindy is survived by her beloved husband, Rocky Burns; her son, Heath Burns (Cherie); her daughter, Laurie Bench (Jody); and her son-in-law, Jason Meyer. She also leaves behind her pride and joy—her grandchildren: seven grandsons, Hayden Bench (Audrey), Eli Burns, Wade Meyer, Lane Bench, Gabe Burns, Grant Burns, and Jaxon Bench; and two granddaughters, Emma Burns and Ali Meyer. She was joyfully anticipating the arrival of her first great-grandchild.
She is also survived by her 94-year-old mother, Mary Magdalena “Lena Belle” Henning; her sisters, Linda Tanner (Paul), Denise Foreman, and Jenise Naylor; and her brothers, Earl Henning and Randall Henning. She is further survived by her brother-in-law, Jimmy Burns (Shelia), along with 40 nieces and nephews, 30 great-nieces and nephews, and 4 great-great-nieces and nephews. Special in-laws Ed and Patsy Hance.
