

Daniel F. Whatley, 91, passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2012, at Remington Park Senior Living Community. He was born January 1, 1921, in Edgerly, Louisiana, and his family moved to Baytown in 1929. Mr. Whatley was a 1939 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and attended Lee College in Baytown. After serving in the United States Marine Corps in the South Pacific during World War II, Mr. Whatley was employed by Humble Oil and Refining Co. in 1946 at its Baytown refinery where he worked as a brickmason and retired from Exxon Corp. as a labor supervisor in 1983.
Mr. Whatley was a longtime active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Baytown, serving as a member of the Vestry and as Senior Warden and Junior Warden. He was a member of the Baytown chapter of Kiwanis International. For ten years, he served as Scoutmaster for Cub Scout Pack 208. He and his late wife Marian held season football tickets to Robert E. Lee Gander games for 63 years and were enthusiastic fans of the University of Texas at Austin Longhorns, traveling to football games across the country.
Mr. Whatley was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Marian Roberts Whatley, his grandson John Thomas Anderson, his brother Perry L. ""Bit"" Whatley, and his parents D.B. and Helen Whatley. He is survived by sons Danny Whatley and wife Kathy and Tom Whatley, all of Austin, daughter Jeanie Anderson and husband John of Baytown; granddaughters Leah Anderson of Baytown and Emily Jennings and husband Brian of Spring; grandson Jim Anderson of Austin; great grandchildren Audrey Elizabeth and Graham Thomas of Spring.
His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Wednesday, January 18, 2012, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday, January 19, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 5010 N. Main St., Baytown, TX 77521 with Father Nick Novak officiating. Burial will follow at White Cemetery in Highlands.
