(January 22, 1941 – May 15 2023)
Doris was born in Harris County, Texas and moved frequently during her childhood throughout Southeast Texas and Louisiana before settling in Baytown on Sjolander Road where she raised two children. She is the great granddaughter of John P. Sjolander. Later in life she moved to West Texas where she worked and retired from the Texas Railroad Commission. After retiring, she moved back to East Texas (Dayton and Kingwood) to be closer to family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emil J. Koenig, her mother Myrtle C. Oates, Father Bernie Oates, and brother Arthur Oates.
She is survived by her brother James Oates, brother Stephen Oates, her Daughter Sandra Lee Khan, Son-in-Law Sarosh Khan, Son Ronald “Ronnie” Lee, Daughter in Law Carin Lee, and her four granddaughters: Meagan Khan, Aliya Khan, Maya Khan, and Sabrina Lee.
Her soft-spoken personality was known by all knew her. She carried herself with the utmost grace and humility. She was quite simply the kindest person most of us could ever meet. She never complained and took all life’s challenges in stride. She found humor in the ordinary which often led to fits of laughter. Doris’s hobbies included puzzles, rock and coin collecting, bingo and the slot machines. She was a “mean” domino player who could hold her own with just about anyone.
During her years in Baytown, she was member of Shiloh Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held from 12-1 pm, Monday, May 22, 2023, at Navarre Funeral Home, 2444 Rollingbrook Dr., Baytown, Texas 77521. Funeral service will begin at 1 pm. Interment will follow at Cedar Bayou Masonic Cemetery, Baytown, Texas.
