Dr. Richard Woods

Dr. Richard Woods, 89, of Baytown was born September 23, 1922 in Goose Creek and passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2012, in a local hospital. As a practicing dentist in Baytown for over 50 years, he was much loved by his patients and associates. He was a graduate of the University of Texas Dental School, a member of the American Dental Association, a U. S. Navy WWII veteran, and a longtime member of Cedar Bayou Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Woods, and brothers, Merrill Woods and Lynn Woods. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mary Woods of Baytown; daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and David Green of Friendswood and Cynthia and Gary Balmain of College Station; grandchildren and their spouses, Cynthia and Collin Hieger of Houston, John David Green of Houston, Clinton and Jenn Balmain of League City, and Kristin Balmain of College Station; great grandchildren, Conner Hieger, Evan Balmain, and Audrey Balmain; and niece, Verna Ruth Jones of Baytown.

Richard and Mary were high school sweethearts and she was the love of his life.

His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 9, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at Cedar Bayou Baptist Church, 3116 N. Alexander Dr., Baytown, TX 77520, with Rev. Jim Stevens officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Clint Balmain, John David Green, Collin Hieger, Ray Martin, Greg McAdams, Gary Balmain, and David Green. Honorary pallbearers will be Gay Whitehead, Wayne Jones, and Carl Smiley.
