Duane Smith

Duane Smith, 40, of Baytown, TX was born April 14, 1966 in Baytown and passed away Saturday, June 10, 2006 in a Houston hospital after being involved in a motorcycle accident. He was an operator at Dow Chemical for 16 years and was a NASCAR fan, but his passion was music; listening to it and following both well known rock bands and discovering lesser known bands. He attended Ross S. Sterling High School and was a 1985 graduate of Barbers Hill High School.

His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Stafford officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Wayne Henscey, Jimmy Reynolds, E. J. Salinas, Ty Howard, Jason Faulk, Terry Cox, Wiley Gardner, and Kelly Pittman. His best friend Keith Carlile will be an honorary pallbearer.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jack Smith; grandmother, Inez Newman; father, David Smith; stepfather, Rick Neill; and brother-in-law, Norman Ponder and is survived by his beloved wife of 15 years, D’Laine Smith and daughter, Skye Smith, both of Baytown; mother, Joanne Neill and sister and brother-in-law, Connie and Martin Silva, all of Houston; grandmother, Naomi Smith of Waco; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Norman and Kay Ponder and brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Rance and Rhonda Ponder and Vicki Ponder, all of Baytown; aunts and uncles, Marylee and Chick James of Portland, Barbara Owens of Liberty, Donnie Smith of Baytown, and Brenda and Tom Mattern of Hewitt; special cousins, Mark and Darren James; nieces and nephews, Michelle, Matthew, Danielle and Danon Ponder, Corey, Starrett, and Chase Kesterson, and Natalie and Taylor Silva; numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of friends; and his beloved dogs, Sophie and Chloe.

In lieu of usual remembrances, contribution may be made in Duane’s memory to the charity of one’s choice.
