Eddie was born November 10, 1933 in Aransas Pass, to parents; Vieta Grace and T.E. Kell and was a longtime resident of Baytown.
Eddie was a veteran and served in the Army Signal Corp. in the area of Ft. Ritchie, Md. as a microwave radio technician. While there, Eddie was selected by the NSA to join a group of servicemen working on and writing manuals for the US Army’s first electronic code deciphering machines. This duty tied nicely into Eddie’s love for solving puzzles.
During his time at Ft. Ritchie, Eddie and other Army buddies looked for ways to relieve boredom. After discovering an old moth-balled barracks on the base, they got permission to turn it into a recreation hall and then started asking girls from the local women’s colleges to come to the dances they hosted there. This is how he met his future wife, Patricia.
After his discharge, Eddie worked as an intern for several petroleum companies in the Midwest and South while going to school at night to complete his BS in Electrical Engineering from Lamar University.
Eddie was a former Electrical Engineer/Maintenance Superintendent for Quantum, USI Division of Deer Park, Texas and retired after over 25 years of service. If there ever was a plant emergency at Quantum, he was there to help troubleshoot the issue.
Eddie had many hobbies, some of which lasted his whole life. Eddie was a passionate duck and deer hunter and he was a long time Board member of two local shooting ranges. Always the perfectionist, he took up reloading and gunsmithing both rifles and shotguns and built his own home reloading workshop.
Eddie was also an avid fisherman and living in Baytown gave him many opportunities to fish and flounder. Owning not one, but two boats, he also tried his hand at shrimping and crabbing and always kept the family freezer full. Fishing soon branched out into custom fishing lure and rod building. He also built some very fine knives in his spare time.
Eddie was preceded in death daughter Sharon Ann Kell, brother Teddy, his parents and his wife Patricia.
He is survived by his daughter Linda and her husband Glen Corbett of British Columbia, son Scott Kell and his wife Dhawn of Baytown, two grandchildren Chad and his wife Sarah Kell of Houston and Julie Schwartzengraber and her husband Ryan of Vancouver, Washington and great-grandchildren Margot and James Kell, and brother John Kell and his wife Barbara of Nashville, Tennessee and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Of his many lifetime friends, Eddie would say:
“I can say that I have been fortunate during my tenure to have shared my existence with some exceptionally good beings. You cannot ask for more from life.”
A Celebration of Life Gathering for Eddie will be held at Navarre Funeral Home, located at 2444 Rollingbrook Drive, Baytown, Texas, 77521, on Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 11 am to 1 pm.
