

Edith Phyllis Wells, age 85, of Baytown, Texas passed away on Monday, February 20, 2023. She was born in Aransas Pass, Texas to Raymond and Hattie Cummings on December 6, 1937. Phyllis grew up in Aransas Pass with her five sisters and two brothers. She attended Aransas Pass High School, where she graduated in 1956.
Phyllis was a talented musician who loved bluegrass and gospel music. She played the guitar, banjo, and ukulele. She was blessed with a beautiful singing voice and brought joy to many with her performances. As an ordained minister, she pastored a church in Lufkin, Texas during the 1970's, performing multiple marriage ceremonies and spreading the word of God. Her laughter was memorable and her energy contagious. Phyllis never met a stranger and always made everyone feel welcome in her home. She loved life and aspired to live for 100 years. Above all, she loved God, her family, and making people laugh. We take comfort in knowing that Phyllis is now at peace surrounded by light.
Phyllis was preceded in death by husband, Jack Wells; and her parents, Hattie and Raymond Cummings.
She is survived by sons, Jerry LeCompte (Cordie), Donnie LeCompte, Darryl LeCompte (Jerrie Sue), Michael LeCompte (Linda), Bryan LeCompte (Jennifer) and stepdaughters, Cheryl Smith and Tassie Edmonston; grandchildren, Julie Strickland, Jason , Elizabeth, and Christina LeCompte, Ashley and Eric Gunn, Jennifer Combs, Christopher Gutierrez, Rachelle Lynn Cody, Darryl LeCompte Jr, Micha, Kaigan,Carmendy, Quinn, Landen, Autumn, and Reid LeCompte, Allen Hawthrone, Riata Pena, Kelsey and Ethan Whitehead; 35 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren; sister, Ruth Flirt of Aransas Pass, Texas and multiple nieces and nephews.
The family extends their gratitude to Autumn Lane Personal Care Home, owner Virginia Campbell and caregivers, Rhoda, Elizabeth, and Carrie for their kindness, compassion and excellent care of Phyllis in her final years. Also, to Billie Jo Weinberg LMSW, Shera Brackett RN, and Rick Atkinson, Chaplin of Vantage Hospice, and Elara Hospice staff. Special appreciation goes out to hospice nurse Julie LeCompte Strickland, RN who bravely and compassionately assisted Phyllis in her final days, keeping her comfortable at the end of her earthly journey.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 1, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Navarre Funeral Home, 2444 Rollingbrook Drive, Baytown, TX 77521. A funeral service will occur Thursday, March 2, 2023 at 9:30 AM at Celebration of Life Church, 120 S Alexander Dr, Baytown, TX 77520. Interment will follow at 1:00 PM in Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038.
