Gary Wayne Walker was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana but soon his parents relocated to Baytown,Texas where he spent his entire life. Gary attended Miss Johnson's Country Day School, Pumphrey Elementary, Baytown Junior High School, where he was a member of the choir and then graduated from Ross S. Sterling in 1980. In his Junior year he participated in the school's European school trip which made lifetime memories.
For those that knew Gary they quickly realized that he never met a stranger as he would speak to anyone and befriend everyone. This was one of his wonderful traits as was his generous nature. He loved fishing, which he learned from his grandfather. Loved the outdoors and stray cats. During his life he received three gifts from his father, the love of his hometown football teams, his overalls and his ever-present hat.
He began his 30+ year career at Chem Coast Inc. as a laboratory technician but used his intellect to master all the complicated apparatus and quickly rose to become a training and managing asset. He was a naturally talented engineer and quickly diagnosed troublesome laboratory instruments. Among his many talents was his quick wit and broad knowledge. He was always available to discuss a broad range of topics and could be a formidable opponent in an argument. He will be missed as his whistling was always punctuating his surroundings.
Gary leaves behind his loving wife of 41 years Jo Anne, his sister Terrie and brother-in-law Sam Ford. His mother-in-law Sharon Flint, sister-in-law Valerie and her husband Joe Silva, brother-in-law Alex Flint, and many nieces and nephews, along with a host of friends and fellow workers.
He was preceded in death by his parents Pat and TC Walker, Jr. and his brother Timothy Greg.
A memorial visitation for Gary will be held Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Earthman Baytown Funeral Home, 3919 Garth Road, Baytown, Texas 77521, with a Memorial Celebration of Life starting at 12:00 PM.
