George was born in Houston, TX, on Jan. 30, 1923, to George Harley Ferguson, Sr. and Mary Eden Norton Ferguson. George’s childhood years were in Lynchburg and Highlands, TX. George and his wife of 67 years, Doris, have lived in Baytown since 1947. George graduated from Pasadena High School in 1939. He attended Texas A&M, class of 1943, and he graduated in 1948, after retiring from the service as a Captain in the U.S. Army Infantry. He was stationed in the Philippines and was proud to have been included in the photograph of the 1946 Aggie Muster on the island of Corregidor.
He worked for Humble Oil and Refining Company beginning in 1948, and retired from Exxon in 1984. In retirement, George and his wife Doris enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting and visiting family. He joined the Rotary Club of Baytown in 1974, and was a member of Goose Creek Country Club for 40 years.
His Aggie spirit and support led to all three of his sons and two grandchildren receiving degrees from Texas A&M.
George is survived by his wife, Doris; sons, George Harley Ferguson, III and wife Barbara, Lawrence Alan Ferguson and wife Glenda, and Thomas Carroll Ferguson and wife Pat; six grandchildren, Patrick Alan Ferguson, Michael Lawrence Ferguson, Tracy Ferguson Wheelis, Amy Ferguson Kohan, Matthew Thomas Ferguson and Kristen Elizabeth Ferguson; great grandchildren, Spencer Patrick and LauraMae Rose Ferguson, Abigail Ruth and Isaac Matthew Wheelis and Robert Lawrence Ferguson.
