

Herb was the youngest of six children. He attended college at the University of Vermont, where he made the Dean’s List and participated in all Varsity Sports. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, but his plans to study medicine to become a doctor were put on hold, due to the outbreak of World War II. After being drafted into the US Army, he fought against General Rommel’s forces on the Libyan Desert. He became a Captain in the US Army and was close friends with General Dwight Eisenhower. After the war he married his soul mate, Mary Lee Bishop, and they moved to Houston, TX, where he was employed by Shell Oil Company in Deer Park for 36 years. During that time, Herb attended the University of Houston and graduated with his Master’s Degree in Engineering. Also, at night he taught Instrumentation classes at Lee College in Baytown.
Herb leaves behind a son, Ron L. Cannon; daughter-in-law, Tanya L. Cannon; daughter, Janice K. Cannon; grandsons, Robert A. Cannon, Matthew W. Cannon, Christopher L. Cannon, Aaron L. Cannon, Tyler L. Cannon; granddaughter, Kendra L. Engles and many nephews and nieces.
