

Irene was raised with a very strong work ethic. She would come home from school, and immediately start picking cotton out in the field with the rest of her family. Upon graduation from Crosby High School, she went to work for Crosby State Bank for the next 10 years, until her daughter Cheryl was born. When Cheryl started school, Irene went to work for The Highlands State Bank until 1981 when she retired as Vice President. She spent the rest of her years being a mother, grandmother, sister, companion, and a good friend to everyone.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Francis Adam; husband, H. Keith May; second husband, Richard Maxwell; brothers, Lawrence Adam, Woodrow Adam, and Victor W. Adam; sister, Willie Mae Adam Nemec. She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Lynne May Omtvedt; grandsons, Lucas K. Omtvedt and Marcus T. Omtvedt, all of Baytown; sisters, Evelyn Adam Woodard of Montgomery and Angeline Adam Thompson of Northshore; nieces and nephews, Cindy Woodard Ocker, Michael Woodard, Ken Adam, Doyle Adam, Angela Thompson Horak, Craig Thompson and companion Dimmitt H. Merrill; numerous great nieces, nephews, and other family survivors.
Honoring the family as pallbearers will be Jimmy Petrick, Ace Harrison, Mark Argo, Ray Ball, and David Wilson.
Her family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held at Navarre Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 10:00 am with Rev. Mike Proctor officiating. Burial will follow at White Cemetery in Highlands. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Marks Methodist Church building fund, 3811 N Main St Baytown, TX 77521
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to all of those who have shown us such kindness, support and consideration in many ways, and for all of the prayers that have sustained us during this difficult time. We would also like to thank the many doctors and nurses at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital who treated her with care, respect, and thoroughness to help make the remainder of her life as comfortable as possible.
