

He was born in Zavala, Texas June 6, 1928, to William (Will) Zachariah Short and Arrie Jones Short. He was a resident of Baytown for over 70 years and was employed by Ashland Chemical as a chief operator and Coastal Water Authority as an instrument technician. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, boating, bowling, and was an avid sports fan especially of the Houston Astros. He even embraced the electronic age by learning to navigate Facebook and email. He was devoted to his church, Second Baytown, sang in the senior choir for many years, served in past years as deacon, and loved spending time with family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who recently celebrated a milestone of 75 years of marriage to his beloved wife. He had a good sense of humor, was hardworking, and a man of his word. His legacy will be carried on in the hearts of his family and he will be loved and missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers J.W. Short, L.B. Short, Simmie Short, Jimmie Short, and sisters Iona Smith Hornsby, Eva Short Cook, Effie Short Bush, and great granddaughter Kate Van Wagner.
J.P. is survived by his beloved wife, Betty Jo Short; his son Randy Short (and wife Kathy); his daughter Vicki Fuller (and husband Glen); his grandchildren Daystar Van Wagner (and husband Jason); Solomon Short (and wife Rachel); Christan Reilly (and husband Matt); Jeremy Fuller (and wife Cindy), and Travis Fuller; his great grand-children, Ethan and Ella Van Wagner, Selah and Levi Short, Rowan Reilly, Starling, Roman, Addison, Braun, and Trent Fuller. Also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Visitation will be held from 10- 11am, Saturday, August 28, 2021, at Navarre Funeral Home, 2444 Rolllingbrook Dr., Baytown, Texas 77521, with the funeral service to begin at 11 am. Interment will follow at Earthman Memory Gardens Cemetery, 8624 Garth Rd., Baytown, Texas 77521.
