

Jack retired from the Deer Park Rohm & Haas Chemical Plant after 37 years of faithful service, 26 of which were in supervision and training. After retirement he worked for 10 more years at what he loved most, teaching and training others to be all that God had created them to be. He was a gifted speaker, teacher, and motivator. He conducted leadership skills and motivational workshops for Rohm & Haas, Hydro Chem, and Catalyst Tech.
Jack was the associate pastor at the Bandera Street Baptist Church in Channelview, the senior pastor at Fresa Road Church in Pasadena for 9 years, and worked in Eureka Springs, AR for a season at the Great Passion Play as Simon Peter. He worked for 11 years as a Harris County Precinct# 3 Reserve Deputy Sherriff. He was an avid golfer in his day, an expert gunsmith (owning his own business), and accomplished photographer (owning his own business). Among his many accomplishments, he will be remembered as a wonderful example of a Godly man.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Salter and Flo Spurlock; brothers, Salter Spurlock, Jr., Paul Spurlock, and Leslie Vanden, son, Salter Spurlock, III; and daughters, Stephanie Dawn Spurlock and Stardi Lynn Vinson. He is survived by his wife, Diane Spurlock; son, Jack Riley Spurlock, Jr.; stepdaughter, Stephanie Gordon; stepson, Jason Henry; grandchildren, Jack Riley Spurlock III, Dustin Spurlock, Herschel Salter Spurlock IV, Malia Spurlock, Rachel Spurlock-Williams, Jillian Johnson, and Britlee Brost; step grandchildren, Garrett Hausberger, William Hausberger, Isaiah Gordon, Shawna Gordon, Noah Courtney, Nathan Courtney, Hannah Henry, Taylor Johnson, and Sidney Johnson; and 10 great grandchildren.
His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of the New Beginnings, 3220 N. Alexander Dr., Baytown, TX 77520 with Pastor Benny Holmes and Evangelist Jerry Owens officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarcrest Cemetery.
In lieu of usual remembrances, contributions may be made to The Church of the New Beginnings Youth Building Fund.
