Jacob Ray Buckalew, known affectionately to many as Jake, passed away on November 25, 2025, at the age of 41. Born on December 9, 1983, Jake was a man of many admirable qualities: adventurous, compassionate, faithful, generous, gentle, honest, humorous, kind-hearted, selfless, and thoughtful.
Jake's early life was marked by academic achievements. He graduated from Channelview High school in 2002, was a member of the National Honor Society, and ranked in the top 10% of his class. He went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree from Stephen F Austin and was employed at A1 Garage Doors.
He is survived by his loving parents, Micheal and Carla Buckalew, his sister Jenna Buckalew and her husband Ryan Whitlow, his niece Amelia Whitlow, his nephew Charles Whitlow, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Jake had a deep love for Texas history and shared this passion by teaching history at the junior high level. He was an exceptional volleyball player, competing on the men's club volleyball team at Houston Volleyball Academy. Jake also enjoyed coaching volleyball, contributing his time and talent at the junior high level in Channelview, high school level in Manvel, and at the club level for Houston Juniors.
Friends and family remember Jake as someone who was always willing to listen and offer support without judgment. He was described as loyal and sincere, never putting himself first. Jake's old soul and compassionate nature meant he never met a stranger and could engage anyone with his persuasive and negotiating skills, all while wearing a smile and a gleam in his eyes. His quick wit and good-natured teasing brought joy to those around him.
Jake accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at a young age while attending Memorial Baptist Church in Channelview. His family finds comfort in the hope of being reunited with him in heaven someday, a blessed hope through Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to all who have offered kind words, shared memories, and provided prayers during this difficult time. They have felt God's presence through the support of family and friends uplifting them in prayer.
Jake's legacy of kindness, humor, and selflessness will continue to inspire all who knew him.
John 10

28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.
