

Born on April 15, 1947 in Lufkin, Texas where he lived until 1949, James "Rickey" Cox was born to parents Oran Albert and Kitty Mozell Cox. He was the third and the best of three children. He attended Cloverleaf Elementary, North Shore High School, and Lee College.
After graduation, he began a career as a Front Line Supervisor at Exxon and a Maintenance Supervisor at US Steel. He retired in 2006 after working for 38 years. After retirement, he was involved in umpiring, traveling, and visiting as many casinos as he could.
He lived in Baytown, Texas, with his one and only true love Linda Sue Barnes who he married on August 28, 1965 at Bandera Street Baptist Church.
He was a faithful member of South Drive Baptist Church as well as a member of the American Legion Hall Post #0658, North Shore Exes Scholarship Committee, and the Eastside Veterans.
Rickey served in the United States Army from April 1966 to May 1969 during the Vietnam War. Where he attained the rank of SP5 and received trainings in missile radar repair and numerous shooting awards.
Rickey was a storyteller, caring person, hard-worker, provider, taste tester of all sweets and a prankster. Some of the most important events in his life were the marriage to Linda Sue Barnes and the birth of their son Randy. He loved being a Papa to his grandchildren Todd, Lexi, Ragan, and Allie.
Rickey loved to hunt, fish, play golf, watch his Houston Texans, Houston Astros, and taste testing Linda’s cooking.
Rickey is preceded in death by; his father Oran Albert Cox; mother Kitty Mozell Cox; brother Rex H. Cox; sister-in-law Joan Cox; brother Ronnie Cox; as well as nine brother-in-laws.
He is survived by; wife Linda Sue Cox; son Randy Cox; daughter-in-law Linda Lee Cox; grandson Todd Cooper; granddaughters Lexi Cox, Ragan Cox, Allison Cox; and numerous sister/brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
