

James Mercer “Jim” Cox, 70, of Baytown, went to be with the Lord on Monday October 10, 2005. He was born in Patterson, Texas February 28, 1935 to his parents, Hubert and Katherine Cox. He worked in sales in the petrol-chemical industry. He was a member of St. Pauls United Methodist Church. He served with the Texas Air National Guard. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #329 and also a lifetime member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. He loved the outdoors and was an avid Hunter.
His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday 11:00 a.m. at St. Pauls United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Dottie Dumas. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. at the Odd Fellow Cemetery in Anderson, TX.
Serving as pallbearers will be Earl Page, Roger Powell, Randy Ochoa, Christopher, Gonzalez, Allen King, and Ken Fabbo. Honorary pallbearers will be Melvin John Philippus, Morgan Page, Perry Viator, and Matthew Funderburk.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Gail Cox; children, James Matthew Cox, Matthew Funderburk, Cheryl Ann Cox, Anna Beth Ochoa and husband Randy; grandchildren, Christopher Gonzalez, Kasey Ochoa, Colton Ochoa; brother, Hubert Cox Jr. and wife Dorothy; sisters Barbara Cox Knutson and husband Vernon, Patsy Cox Philippus and husband John; 6 nephews; 4 nieces; and many friends whom he loved as family.
The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to the staff of Odyssey Hospice and all of his care-givers who helped him to put up a good fight.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of James Cox to The M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.
