James “Jamie” William Hewitt, 47, was a lifelong resident of Baytown, Texas. He was born in Baytown, on December 10, 1964. He lost his long battle with cancer on Saturday, August 25, 2012, in the San Jacinto inpatient hospice facility. Just before his passing, Jamie wanted all his friends to know, “Life is too short. Make the most of every moment you have!”
Jamie was the oldest child and only son of William Sibley Hewitt and Sharon Sue Robinson Hewitt. He attended Lamar Elementary, Horace Mann Junior School, Highlands Junior School and graduated from Sterling High School in 1983.
Before his illness, he worked as a supervisor and dispatcher for a large Houston security company. Jamie was a wonderful brother who kept his younger sisters out of trouble growing up, guiding them to “avoid my mistakes.”
He was a very caring, giving person. His mother related that a man approached them one day on the street, asking for food or money to buy food. Jamie, who could eat only heath shakes due to his illness, gave the man a bottle of the health shakes they had just purchased, apologizing that he had no money or food to offer. His friends all knew him as a fun loving guy with a good sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John William Hewitt, Mary Jo Johnson Hewitt, Louis James Robinson and Buna Fay Cates Robinson, several aunts and uncles, and an infant sister, Karen Alaine Hewitt. He is survived by his parents, William Sibley and Sharon Hewitt, of Baytown, TX. He is survived by his sisters, Mary F. Hewitt-Levy, M.D., and husband David S. Levy, and JoAnn Hewitt-Short and husband Charles D. Short –all of Baytown. He loved his nieces and nephew, who also survive him: Victoria Alysse Short, Corinna Rose Levy and Trace William Short. He is survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins, as well.
A Celebration of Life will be held by the family at Earthman Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, August 29, 2012, at 11am. A private interment will be held at Cedar Crest Cemetery.
