Jennye Lou Warren

6 julio , 192727 mayo , 2021

Jennye Lou Evans Warren, age 93, passed away peacefully at home in Baytown, Texas, on May 27, 2021. Born on July 6, 1927, in Ruston, Louisiana, she was the daughter of R. Eddie and Mildred Riser Evans. Always smart and beautiful, she graduated from Ruston High School in 1944 as Valedictorian and Homecoming Queen. She was a great admirer of her father who was an engineer, so when enrolling at Louisiana Tech, she applied to study engineering. She was quickly told by the Dean that “we don’t admit girls.” Her strong-willed nature led her to appeal to the President of the University who allowed her to enroll in engineering. She graduated in 1948 with a BS in Electrical Engineering as the first female engineering graduate in the school’s history. While at Tech, she was an active member and officer of many organizations and honor societies including President of her sorority, Kappa Delta. After graduating, she worked in her father’s engineering office for two years. She met her husband, Bert, in college and married on May 7, 1950, in Ruston. That same day, the couple traveled to Baytown, Texas, where Bert worked for Humble Oil & Refining..now Exxon. They lived in Baytown for 71 years where they raised four children.

Jennye Lou was involved in many of her children’s activities such as Scouts and MYF. The family is long-time members of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church. A family favorite vacation was the annual summer stay at the 7-A Ranch in Wimberley, Texas. In addition she enjoyed many adult activities. She & Bert were Founding Members of Carousel, an adult Social Club in Baytown. She enjoyed Book Club, Garden Club, garage sales, her red sports car and lifelong learning. She attended classes at The Women’s Institute in Houston for many years. She also entered every contest she came across which once resulted in riding on a Mardi Gras float in New Orleans. Trying new restaurants each week with family and friends was also a favorite pursuit.

She would say her favorite hobby was travel which she & Bert did extensively. First throughout the US with the kids in the back of the family station wagon. Later to more than 80 countries around the world. Her favorite places to return to were Hawaii & Las Vegas.

Jennye Lou was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Bobby Evans. Left to enjoy telling her stories are husband, Elbert G (Bert) Warren, Jr, daughters Elizabeth Warren Theut (Ken) & Caroline Warren York (Bob) and sons Dr E G (Bert) Warren, III & Edward Warren. She was LuLu to her grandchildren: Allison Theut Gleason, Laura Theut Grau, Ann York Anderson (Justin), Robert G York, Jr (Brittany), Dr Ashley Warren Tovo (Roberto), E Graham Warren, IV (Dr Elizabeth), Teagan Warren & Piper Warren. She also leaves numerous nieces, nephews and great grandchildren as her legacy.

She will be remembered for many things...her irreverent sense of humor, the cherry cheesecakes & “Green Stuff” she brought to family gatherings, and her fierce independent spirit. There will be a private burial in Houston National Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Navarre Funeral Home in Baytown.

Caroline,
There is nothing that quite compares to the loss of your Mother. A mother’s love and embrace are so special & unlike any other we’ve ever known. I am deeply sorry for the the pain and sadness you may be feeling right now but I also know the sense of peace and joy that comes from knowing she’s rejoicing in Heaven now and no longer suffering. My thoughts and prayers are with you, my sweet friend, as well as with your Daddy and brothers & sister, Bob, kids & grandkids. I wish I was there to hug you & hold your hand. I love you!
Prayers,
Angel
