

Jerry Tilton, 94, of Baytown passed away peacefully on October 28, 2010. Born in Milford, Texas, she was the daughter of Hilary and Robert Childers. Jerry came to Barbers Hill in 1939 and worked at the Jack Busch Drugstore where she met the love of her life, Lee Tilton. They were married six weeks later and enjoyed a wonderful life together for 45 years before his passing in 1984. Her life was devoted to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Along with her husband, Jerry was always their most enthusiastic supporter. In addition, she was very active in Barbers Hill, volunteering at her children's schools and serving First United Methodist Church of Mont Belvieu, where she was a member for nearly fifty years. She and her husband moved to Baytown in 1984, where she joined St. Mark's United Methodist Church and became involved with the United Methodist Women. Jerry was also a member of Lakewood Garden Club.
Jerry was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Tilton, grandson, Kyle Tilton, brother, Raymond Childers, and sister, Myrtle Speer. She is survived by her ""four"" children, son, Kenneth Lee Tilton and his wife, Gayle, and daughter, Peggy Ward, and her husband, George. She is also survived by her grandchildren, David and Georgeann Ward, Susan and James Hillin, Kathy and Jesse Villarreal, and Kerry Tilton. Her great-grandchildren include Matthew and Brian Ward, Ashley and Lauren Hillin, Joshua, Elisabeth, and Rebecca Villarreal, and Emily Tilton. Her surviving sister and brothers include Lucille ""Sadie"" Wilson and Clyde Childers of Baytown, and Ted Childers of Milton, Florida. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friend Stella Holmes.
Following a private burial, a celebration of Jerry's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 1, 2010 at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 3811 N. Main St., Baytown, Texas 77521 with Rev. Mike Proctor presiding. The family will receive friends at a reception immediately following the service.
Pallbearers include Gordon Speer, Robert Wilson, James Hillin, Jesse Villarreal, David Lee Ward, and David Logan Ward.
In lieu of other remembrances, gifts may be made to the St. Mark's United Methodist Church Building Fund.
Her family expresses sincere appreciation to her special caregivers, Karen Bostick, Catherine Ford, Lillie Chenevert, Jamelle Holmes, Wanda Chenevert, and other neighbors and friends who lovingly supported her in recent years.
