Jimmy H. Morris, 79, of Baytown, passed away on Friday, July 1, following a lengthy illness. Left to cherish his memory are loving wife of 38 years, E'vonne Laughlin Morris; sons James 'Bo' Morris (Erika) of San Diego, CA, and Justin Morris of Frisco, TX; sister Yvonne DeKalb (Don) of Warner Robins, GA; brother Bobby Morris (Lynette) of Opp, AL; mother in-law Brunella Laughlin of Baytown; sister in-law Cherie Melendez (Joel) of Beach City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jimmy was born March 21, 1937, in Red Level, AL, the eighth of George and Birdie Morris' ten children. It is there he learned to farm, and he continued gardening through later years to generously share his vegetables with friends and neighbors. He grafted multiple pecan trees throughout the area, an art he acquired from his father in-law Willett Laughlin. Jimmy was also an avid hunter and fisherman, passing these skills and the love of nature to his sons.
Jimmy was an employee of Diamond Shamrock in Deer Park before joining U.S. Steel, where he was a production supervisor for over 20 years at Baytown and Fairfield, AL, until retirement in 1990. He was proudly involved in his sons' school and sports activities, from Little League through College football. Jimmy was a member of Cedar Bayou Grace United Methodist Church. He and E'vonne were virtually inseparable, completing daily tasks, cooking, and enjoying saltwater fishing together. Jimmy's wish is that his ashes be scattered at Rollover Pass, his favorite fishing spot.
His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Tuesday, July 5, 2016, beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 7:00 p.m.
