

John was born on May 6, 1936 in Trinidad, West Indies to the late Francis and Virginia Charles. John attended the John S. Donaldson Institute where he studied his trade and became an electrician. He married Ephraem Noreiga, and to this union six children were born. John relocated his family to St. Croix, U.S.V.I. where he worked at Hess Oil Company. He later relocated to Baytown, Texas with his family.
John was an active member of Holy Family Catholc Church in Baytown, Texas. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, godfather, and friend. He devoted a good portion of his time and energy as a caregiver when necessary to friends, and always made time to help friends with electrical household needs. His interests included fishing, crabbing, playing pool, gardening, as well as music and dancing.
John was preceded in death by his parents Francis and Virginia Charles, sons Kevin and Sherman Charles, daughters Ann and Angela Charles, and brothers Vernon, Phillip, and Robert Charles. John is Survived by Ephraem Charles his wife of 53 years, sons Francis (Carol) Charles, John (Wendy) Charles, three grandchildren Cecily, Jovan, and Breonna, siblings Norma, Agnes, Anthony, Raphael, and Margaret, a host of nieces and nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews, relatives, and friends.
With grateful hearts, we the Charles family express our sincere appreciation to everyone who joined hearts and hands with us during this time of bereavement. We are grateful and we thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers offered. We have been blessed with the loving embrace of our family and friends. A special thanks to the medical and support staff of Green Acres of Baytown, San Jacinto Methodist Hospital, and Harbor Hospice for their extra special care and compassion toward our loved one.
We will remember you with gratitude forever.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 4, 2016 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Earthman Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 10:00 am at Holy Family Catholic Church and interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 8624 Garth Rd., Baytown, TX 77521.
