Walton was a life-long Baytown resident. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in the Class of 1947, where he was an accomplished trumpet player in the Lee Band. After high school, he obtained his pilot's license and bought an airplane, where he was able to combine his love of flying with his love of the outdoors. With his airplane, shotgun and fishing pole, he was able to catch trout on the Chandeleur Islands, shoot pintail in Corpus Christi and catch bull reds on the Laguna Madre.
At the young age of 18, Walton joined Humble Oil Company where he worked for almost 40 years and met Gloria, the love of his life. Walton and Gloria made Lakewood their home where he built their first and only home in 1959. Walton and his father-in-law did most of the construction, and he was always happy to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors with carpentry, electrical or plumbing projects.
Shortly after moving into their new home, they were blessed with a daughter, Debbie, and later a son, John. They say it takes a village to raise children, and Walton certainly did his part. When getting home from work, a group of neighborhood kids were always waiting to jump on the side-step of his old Chevy truck for a short ride. His tools and expertise were always available to fix a broken bike, he had a ready supply of Band-Aids to mend cuts and scrapes, and was always happy to hose kids down who came home muddy.
Walton was a man of faith who loved his family and was a loyal friend to many. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church for over 55 years, and had a servant's heart. He lived out his faith in Christ everyday. If a man's measure is best determined by his faith in Christ, his love of family, his loyalty to friends, and his service to others, then Walton was truly a blessed man. On May 23, 2017 at 1:02 PM, Walton certainly heard the words ""Well done my good and faithful servant"".
