

Leonard was born in Bessemer, AL, grew up in Birmingham in a loving family, and graduated from Ensley High School. After his WWII service as a flight engineer on USNA PB2Y Coronado, he completed his degree in mechanical engineering at Auburn University and took a job with Humble Oil in Baytown, TX. There he met and married his wife of almost 63 years, Joanne Gautesen Braswell, and reared two daughters. He rose to the rank of Lt. Commander in the Naval Reserve, retired from Exxon in 1986, and then began his second career as cattle rancher, which brought him great joy and satisfaction.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Allen T., Sr. and Mary Smith Braswell.
He is survived by his wife Joanne Gautesen Braswell; brother Allen T. Braswell, Jr. and wife Joyce, and sister Elaine Sox; daughters JoLynn Braswell, and Nancy Braswell Guio and husband Tagg; grandchildren, Ali Guio Archual and husband Paul, and Matt Guio; sister-in-law, Kathryn Gautesen Sharber and husband James; nephews, Robert Lee ""Biff"" Braswell, Harvey Allen Braswell, Jack Charles Sox and David Sox; niece, Chelsea Sharber Armour, and numerous friends.
A visitation will be held Thursday, May 7, 2015 from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home. Funeral services will also be held at Navarre Funeral Home Friday, May 8, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow at White Cemetery in Highlands.
