
Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery in Cold Spring, Texas under the direction of Navarre Funeral Home.
Mrs. Beasley passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2007, in Tyler. She was born October 31, 1906 in Cleveland to William Milton and Ada Gertrude Cruse McMurrey.
She was raised in Cold Spring and graduated from Cold Spring High School in 1923.
She attended Sam Houston State Teacher’s College in Huntsville and graduated from the University of Texas in Austin in 1927.
Mrs. Beasley came to Baytown in 1927 and taught at Horace Mann Jr. High School for six years. She was a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church and was a member of the Brooks Sunday School Class. She also belonged to the Woman’s Club of Baytown. She had lived in Tyler for the past five years.
Mrs. Beasley enjoyed playing bridge, growing flowers and traveling. Family and friends were very important to her, and she especially enjoyed sharing happy times with them.
Mrs. Beasley was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Augustus Earl (Gus) Beasley; infant son; sister, Lula (Sugar Lady) McMurrey; brothers, William Cruse McMurrey and Robert Julian McMurrey.
Mrs. Beasley is survived by her son, Augustus Earl Beasley, Jr. and wife Carole of Bullard; Brothers, Joseph L. McMurrey and wife Genalou of Huntsville and Samuel Patrick McMurrey of Cold Spring; grandchildren, Michael Beasley and wife Kamal, Karen Beasley and Kathi Baker and husband Steve; great-grandchildren, Duane Beasley and wife Ivana, Angela Itty and husband Thomas, Taylor Baker, Kendall Baker and Raven Rojas; great-great-grandchildren Markus Beasley and Anjana Itty, all of Houston; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the service time.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.
