Lorie Bowden Washburn, age 92, of Beach City, TX, passed this life in Baytown, TX, one month shy of her 93rd birthday. She was born in Nacogdoches, TX on March 13, 1918, where she spent most of her childhood. She was the daughter of Calvin and Elizabeth Bowden who preceded her in death, along with her brothers, Charlie and Max. She went home to be with the Lord and join her beloved Dave, husband of 52 years, who passed away in 1992.
She is survived by her daughter, Joy Woodall and husband, David of Beach City; her son, David Washburn and wife, Joyce of Houston; her beloved sister, Katherine Carter and husband, Jim of Baytown; her loving brother, Calvin Bowden and wife, Freddye of Nacogdoches; her grandsons, Braden Woodall and wife, Gayle of Beach City, Brian Woodall of Baytown, Kevin Washburn and wife, Sherry of Alvin, and Stephen Washburn of Cypress; her great granddaughters, Kayla Enderli of Liberty and Lauren Washburn of Cypress; her great grandsons, Reid and John Woodall of Beach City, Jacob and Jared Woodall of Baytown, Cody Washburn of Cypress, and Kyle and Austin Washburn of Alvin; very special nieces and nephews; and special friend, Bertha McGraw of Nacogdoches.
Lorie lived her life taking care of the needs of her family, instilling in her children the traits of kindness, sympathy, humility, generosity, and patriotism so that they could pass these traits on to their children. She did a good job and will be missed dearly. She loved NASCAR racing and music of any kind and could ""pick"" a tune on the guitar or piano just by listening to the song. She delighted in the daily companionship, joy, and happiness of her daughter and sister and was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Lorie worked as a nurses' aide and switchboard operator at San Jacinto Hospital in Baytown for 10 years and in Nacogdoches at Shepherd's Restaurant for five years and part-time at the Fredonia Hotel gift shop. As a young woman, she also worked for Mize's Factory in Nacogdoches sewing uniforms for our soldiers and in New Orleans and Dallas.
The family would like to extend their special thanks to dear friend Sharon Cox of Crosby, Lifeline of Baytown, Dr. Luis Fraga, St. James House, and the staff of Bayview Home Health and San Jacinto Methodist Hospital for her special care. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at 12:30 p.m. at the Sunset Memorial Cemetery, 5127 North St. in Nacogdoches, TX, with visitation at 11:00 a.m. at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Home, 5400 North St. in Nacogdoches. Her son-in-law, grandsons, and great grandson Reid Woodall will be pallbearers.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the Senior Citizens Center in Nacogdoches, 119 Hughes, 75961. So much taken for granted while alive-how quickly time passed! What a story you are to remember! We love you, Nanny.
