As a devout Catholic, Lucy practiced humility, self-sacrifice, and philanthropic ideals. She was known as “Mom” to so many because she was the ideal mother to everyone she came across—someone who supported you in times of personal triumph; more importantly, she was the comfort in times of personal discontent. Without judgment, Mom loved and embraced everyone she encountered. She dearly loved animals and gardening, and she passed this love of both on to her children.
Lucy was a member of St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church in Highlands for more than 50 years. The path of life, love, and faith that she followed was part of God’s complex goal for her: to serve the needs of others—to be a daughter, a sister, a mother, a grandmother, a wife, a teacher, a healer, a best friend, a care taker to her parents, a compassionate stranger. She remains the roots to a tree that she would see bloom and flourish in sun and storm.
Though the corruption of Alzheimer’s tried its best to defeat the memories of all that she loved, Lucy still retained all that she could; she felt the love of those around her. All those who had the fortune to know her will sorely miss her, but her legacy of compassion will continue through her ever-living spirit.
