Maria Magdalena Rodriguez Ortiz, 74, of Baytown, TX went to be with our Lord on December 7, 2021. She was born Valle Hermoso, Tamaulipas, Mexico and grew up in Harlingen, TX. At 19, she moved to Baytown, TX when her mother passed away. She went to live with her brother and sister-in-law, Leon and Maria Flores.
Maria worked as a beautician, a custodian for GCCISD – with most her of her tenure at Crockett Elementary, and for over ten years as a stocker for Wal-Mart. She also worked with her best friend, Janie Martinez, who owned her own janitorial service. She never shied away from hard work and would do all in her power to get the job done. That’s not to say she didn’t have fun along the way. Those she worked with or met would say how much fun she was to be around and always had a smile on her face.
She enjoyed tending to her plants. Every morning she would water them and tell them how beautiful they were growing. Her family was her life, and she was over the moon over her granddaughters, great granddaughter, and fur grandchildren. She loved playing Loteria with friends and family. For a time, she would go to midnight bingo with her best friend or go to casinos with her husband. When she was younger, she always went to dances on the weekends. Anytime a song came on that she liked, she would start to dance wherever she was at. Be it in the car, in the store, even at school! Traveling was a favorite past time of hers. If it was a small road trip or long vacation, you could almost always count on her to be your co-pilot. Her favorite trip was four years ago. For her 70th birthday, she got to spend a week in Panama City Beach, FL with her granddaughters and great granddaughter.
She could strike up a conversation with anyone around her. She was so much fun to be around and could have you crying with laughter. She was the best mother, wife, grandma, sister, aunt that we could have ever asked for. We love her very much and she will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Maria Dolores Rodriguez, her brother, and sister in law, Leon and Maria Flores.
She is survived by her loving family, granddaughters, and great granddaughter that she adored, beloved nieces and nephews, cousins that were like brothers and sisters. Also, close friends that became family.
Our family would like to express our gratitude to Dr. Fayez Hadidi, Dr. Ali, and their thoughtful staff for their care of our amazing mother over the years.
