Marie Ruth Lemelle Auzenne, 95, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2025 at The Waterford at Baytown Senior Living Community. Marie (or Ruth, as she was known to many) was born in Leonville, Louisiana on October 1, 1930 to the late John Simpson Lemelle and Agalia Auzenne Lemelle. She was the last surviving sibling of ten children.
Marie (Ruth) married Joseph Talbert Auzenne on December 10, 1949 at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Leonville, Louisiana at the age of nineteen.
Marie (Ruth) and Talbert were charter members of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Baytown and belonged to the Sr. Club and the Ladies of St. John. They were very active in the church where they attended weekly morning masses and played bingo.
Marie (Ruth) enjoyed gardening, baking, and being with family and grandchildren. She loved flowers and tended to them lovingly. She baked cakes almost every weekend, always expecting someone to drop by for a visit. There was always a pot of coffee brewing and something sweet to eat. She was continuously entertaining her three brothers, one sister, and their families who traveled from California on their way to visit the old homestead in Louisiana.
Marie (Ruth) was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Joseph Talbert Auzenne; six brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Georgiana Lemelle of Prairie Laurent, LA; Stephen and Celestine Lemelle of Lafayette, LA; Lendon and Cecilia Lemelle of Azusa, CA; Norman and Leona Mae Lemelle of Sun City, CA; Peter Clayton and Theresa Lemelle of West Covina, CA; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Ann Edith and Jimmy Moore of Boston, MA; Mabel Lemelle (died at early age of appendicitis); Erna and Phillip Auzenne of West Covina, CA.
Marie (Ruth) is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Yvonne Auzenne of Baytown; Calvin and Diana Auzenne of Crosby, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Jerrold Auzenne of Houston, Texas; grandchildren Michael Auzenne (fiancee Sarah); Melanie Auzenne Little (husband Marcellus); Angela Auzenne Bordelon (husband John); Chestin Auzenne-Curl (husband Michael); Brian Auzenne; ten great grandchildren, Joshua Auzenne, Landry Little, Reece Little, Noah Bordelon, Marisan Curl, Maddax Curl, Dominic Preciado, Jordyn Auzenne, Mateo Preciado, Isiah Auzenne, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends.
We wish to acknowledge The Waterford at Baytown for their loving care. Although she had a distaste for the food, (she was accustomed to creole cooking), she always highly praised the staff for their loving care and concern. We also would like to thank Harbor Hospice and their staff for providing ongoing communication and compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, The Alzheimer’s Association, or a charity of your choice.
