

Marie Louise Byrne Garrett, 88, beloved wife, mom, grandma, great grandma and sister was called home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, July 24, 2017. She was born April 12, 1929 in Center, Texas to her late parents, Gus Byrne and Ermond Lacy Byrne.
Marie married the love her life, Gordon “Red” Garrett, Sr., on September 20, 1947, settled in Baytown in 1957 with their family and have resided there ever since. She was a member of Family Worship Center in Houston where she sang and played piano for many years.
She returned to school at the age of 50 and ultimately earned a Master in Arts and Religious Education and a Master in Theology. Over 20 years of her life was spent teaching at School of the Good Shepherd where she taught alongside her twin sister, Margie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Gordon Garrett, Jr. and Billie Garrett; son-in-law, Rickey Caruso; brothers, Joe Byrne and his wife Winnie, Dale Byrne, Paul Byrne and Billy Byrne and a sister, Wanda Spann and her husband R.D.
Survivors include her husband of nearly 70 years, Gordon “Red” Garrett, Sr.; daughters, Sandra Darlene Caruso and Sharron Martin and her husband, Bruce; son, Ron Garrett and his wife, Connie; daughter-in-law, Pam Garrett; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; twin sister, Margie Kirkland; sister, Juanita Cook; brother, Charlie Byrne and his wife, Jeanette; sister-in-law, Minerva Byrne and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
The family is forever grateful for the wonderful caregivers, Maria, Erika, Kaelyn, Kristen and Amelia, that God provided to take care of our mother. With unconditional love, compassion and tenderness they cared for our dear precious mother.
We also thank the staff at Faith Hospice for their care and compassion.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 28, 2017 at Navarre Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 29, 2017 at the funeral home with her son, Ron Garrett officiating. Burial will follow at White Cemetery in Highlands.
Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jason Caruso, Chad Caruso, Shane Garrett, Dallas Garrett, David Garrett, Johnathan Garrett and Luke Michelson.
