She was born July 23, 1911 in Gravette, AR, the second of five children of Robert E. VanDeventer and Eugenia C. Adams. In 1912 the family moved to Fullerton, LA. She grew up in the mill town among the longleaf pines and maintained friendships with area residents until her death. She was the town telephone operator 1926-1927 when the mill closed and the town was dismantled. She said the saddest job she ever had was to say ""goodbye"" to each departing family as they called to have their phone disconnected. In 1928 she moved to Beaumont, TX and worked at the Enterprise Cafe, a job she enjoyed and discovered she was a ""people person"". She married Willard A. Bridges in 1932 and they raised three children in South Park. She belonged to the Eastern Star and was an early member of the South Park Baptist Church, where she helped many years in the nursery and children's classes.
She is survived by: children; William Bridges and wife Judy of Sand Springs, OK; Margaret Wilkinson of Dublin, OH; Nancy Currie and husband Carl of Baytown, TX; sister, Elsie Pickett of Abilene, TX; grandchildren: Jody Hughes and Rebecca Stillman of Portland, OR; Suzanne Rosbach and husband Hal of St. Croix, VI; Cheri McClary and husband Steve of Westerville, OH; William Bridges and wife Kristine of Dallas, TX; Rob and Tom Currie of Baytown, TX; three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
