

Melvin Charles Filer, 76, of Dayton, TX, passed away on October 2, 2014. He was born in Alta Loma, TX, on January 2, 1938 to Theresa Barak and Theodore Filer. He attended Alvin Junior College, San Jacinto Junior College, and The University of Houston. He served in the United States Navy Reserves from 1955 to 1963, and was active duty from 1961 to 1963. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 8871 of Dayton, TX, and a 4th degree member of Sacred Heart Assembly 3435 of Crosby, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theresa Barak and Theodore Filer; brothers, Theodore Henry Filer, Joe T. Filer, Robert Wayne Filer, and James Richard Filer; and sister, Jaunita Quinn.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dorthy, three sons, Mark Alan Filer, Jason Todd Filer and his wife Adele, Troy Lynn Filer and his wife Tina; daughter, Cynthia Marie Lewis and her husband Michael; sisters, Willie Mae Maniscalco, and Theresa L. Lacina; and brother, Alvy Lee Filer and his wife Cleo, six grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers during Monday’s service are Tom Devlin, Buddy Janacek, James Kubeczka, Bill Lechowit, Chris Myers, Walter Prokosch.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 5, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a rosary at 6:00 p.m. at Earthman Funeral Home.
Funeral Mass will be on Monday, October 6, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Dayton, TX. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Baytown, TX.
