

Minnie Cornelia Kay Grant, 83, of Lufkin, TX, formerly Baytown was born in Oakhurst on December 27, 1921, the third child of W. S. Kay and Viola Hillhouse Kay. She passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2005 in Lufkin.
She was an active Christian and a founding member of the Church of Christ at Seventh Street, who studied her bible daily before the onset of Alzheimer’s disease. She was a teacher at Cedar Bayou Junior High for over 25 years, was an official “Yellow Rose of the State of Texas”, was active in the Democratic Party at the state and local levels, and was honored for her poetry. As a young mother, she was active in the Red Cross and was President of the PTA. She had an “open door” policy at her home for food and fellowship.
Her family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday, October 14, 2005 at 4:00 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home with Herschel Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarcrest Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 56 years, Homer L. Grant; brothers, Willard Kay and Ray Kay; and sisters, Luella Hollaway and Mildred Pace. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Jo Ann and Louis Killingsworth and Barbara Carter MacLachlan and husband Brent; son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Gloria Grant; grandchildren and spouses, Sean McKay, Christopher and Lisa Carter, Alisha and Marvin Stewart, Rebecca ad Dean Thomas, Ed Killingsworth, Jada Reeder, Steve Morland, and Marcia Graner; and several great grandchildren.
