

The family will welcome friends and loved ones Monday, February 23, 2009 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home in Lufkin, and Tuesday, February 24, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home in Baytown.
Funeral services for Mrs. Craig will be held Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the Second Baptist Church in Baytown with her son, Pastor Bob Craig, officiating. Interment will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Baytown.
The youngest of six children born to Hester (Bryant) Arney and John Matthew Arney, Mrs. Craig was married to Curtis R. Craig February 7, 1936. After 60 years of marriage and seven children, Curtis preceded her in death February 23, 1997. Their son, Randall G. Craig also preceded her.
Mrs. Craig was a Bible Scholar who taught Sunday school for more than 60 years at Stewart Heights and Second Baptist Church in Baytown, as well as serving as WMU President for several years. For the last six years she taught a women's class at Denman Avenue Baptist Church in Lufkin. Mentoring young women was her true passion, to teach them how to be good wives and mothers. For several years she was a guest speaker at the Second Baptist Women's Retreat. Having been a devoted wife and raising seven successful children provided ample experience and material for humorous and insightful speeches. She was a wonderful example!
Mrs. Craig lettered in basketball when she graduated Southwest City Missouri High School in 1937. Her love of athletics continued throughout her lifetime, participating in church volleyball and softball leagues. During the early '80s, while in her 60's, Mrs. Craig was featured in television and newspaper advertisements for Nautilus Fitness Centers in Baytown. As a fitness advocate she ran five miles per day until hip replacement required a switch to swimming, wherein she received three first-place awards in four years of competition with the Baytown Senior Olympics; the last received at the age of 71. Mrs. Craig volunteered as a Candy Striper at Baycoast Hospital in Baytown for 25 years. She was a devoted '42' player and due to her competitive nature, took her game seriously!
Of all her accomplishments, she took greatest pride in her family.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Robyn and Larry Hight of Lufkin; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Catherine Craig of Brenham, Richard and Lyn Craig of Fort Worth, Rodney and Janie Craig of Lindale, Reggie and Karen Craig of Waco, and Russell and Gay Craig of Baytown; grandchildren, Curtis and Carla Hight, Cary and Marie Hight, Kevin Hight and fiancée Tonya Bryant, Cheryl and Brad Yaw, Christi and Bobby Guenther, Kirby Craig, Randall Craig, Jr., John Craig, Kaci Craig, Meredith Craig, Corie and Tyson Burden, Carrie and Anthony Davis, Jason and Justin Hopkins, Allen and Jennifer Craig, Mark and Laura Craig, Chad Craig, John Wesley and Whitney Craig, Joy and Drew McNeil; 27 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a multitude of nieces, nephews, friends and acquaintances; her own ""special deacon"", Ronnie Lusk; and special ladies, Sue Waltman and Martha Windsor, who ministered to her through the ""Cookie Ministry"".
Pallbearers will be Mrs. Craig's grandsons.
