

She was a warm hearted and well liked individual, and these wonderful traits came easily to her because she was such a sociable and amiable person.
Nelda was the daughter of Leslie Harvey Keeton and Mable Viola Worrell. Nelda was raised in Waco, Texas.
She had one younger brother (Leslie Richard Keeton) and two younger sisters (Beverly Ann Keeton and Janice Darlene Keeton). Nelda and her siblings had the typical rivalries while growing up, but they cared deeply for one another.
Nelda attended high school in Waco, Texas where her favorite course was Art. During high school she was involved in a neighborhood church where she taught a children's bible class.
On March 17, 1958 Nelda married Robert Earl Humphries in Bellmead, Texas.
Nelda was blessed with 3 children: Vicki Lynn Humphries, Timothy Carl Humphries, Karen Renee Humphries. She was also blessed with 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, Her grandchildren are: Brandy, Jessika, Tina, Tara, Timothy (Bubba), Chelsea.
Although Nelda married before finishing high school, she earned her GED in her 40's enabling her to enroll in Lee College in Baytown to study Substance Abuse Counseling, while still working at Dillards and selling Avon.
Nelda was what some would call a “people person” and it was demonstrated in her good communication skills in selling Avon. Nelda was a steady worker, one who was realistic about schedules. Her primary occupation throughout her life was retail sales. Through the years she worked for Dillards, JC Pennys, Krogers, and Conns, always finding time to sell Avon on the side. She was a very dedicated employee, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done, while always maintaining respect for her colleagues.
Nelda loved working in her yard and garden. Spring was her favorite season, always planting flowers and repotting a root bound plant.
In her later years, Nelda loved playing golf, even watching golf tournaments on TV. Nelda also liked being a sports fan and enjoyed following her favorite team - The Texans, never missing a game.
Nelda was passionate about her own values and beliefs. She always made sure her vote was counted in every local and national election and made sure her family knew that she had cast her ballot.
Nelda enjoy traveling! Her favorite vacation was a 2-week European cruise with family to Italy, Greece, and Turkey.
Nelda was a lover of animals and cherished her pets. One of her favorites was Gidget, a tan Pomeranian, who was a best friend for 15 years. In her early years, Nelda raised Great Danes.
Since it was easy for Nelda to meet and get to know new people, she quickly made friends, even in retirement. Once she met those new friends, she loved sharing stories and talking.
Nelda passed away on March 10, 2022 at St. James House in Baytown, Texas. She is survived by her daughters, Vicki and Karen; her grandchildren, and her brother Ricky Keeton. A celebration of Nelda's life will be held at home with family. Nelda was laid to rest in Earthman Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Nelda was a fantastic conversationalist who could engage just about anyone in a discussion. And whenever she said something, she meant it. Nelda was a down to earth person, outgoing and gregarious. She was without question the type of person who enjoyed experiencing things first hand. She was practical and sensible, but what friends and family will remember her most is the fact that she was so understanding and kind. Everyone whose life she touched will miss Nelda June Humphries.
