Robert Earl Dunaway

Robert Earl Dunaway passed away on Monday, November 16, 2015, at the age of 71. Robert Earl was born September 10, 1944, in Goose Creek, Texas. He attended Robert E. Lee High School and honorably served in the United States Air Force. After his service, he joined his family business as president of Highlands Shell Company, and later Gulf Coast Asphalt and Paving. He was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church in Champions.

He was active in the Harris County Senior Softball Association, serving as player, coach, and umpire. He held various board positions and countless championship titles. In 2013, he was inducted into the Senior Softball Hall of Fame.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Franklin and Lottie Velma Dunaway and brother Johnnie Eugene Dunaway. He is survived by his family, Temple Benson Dunaway; daughters, Wende Dunaway, Stacy McNair and husband, Stephen, and DeeAnn Thigpen and husband, Marcus; grandchildren, Alexis Pratt, Stephen, Jake and Dylan McNair, and Tillman, Payton and Cullen Thigpen; and nephews, Paul Dunaway, Clifton Dunaway, and John Dunaway. He is also survived by his dearest friend, Rob Stagner, with whom he has shared a lifelong friendship.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, November 18, 2015, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home. Services will be held Thursday, November 19, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Fisher's Chapel at the First United Methodist Church of Mont Belvieu located at 10629 Eagle Drive, Mont Belvieu, Texas 77580, with Rev. Jamie Lea officiating. Burial will follow at Mont Belvieu Methodist Cemetery.

Honoring the family as pallbearers will be Buddy Hosea, Malcolm Wilder, Kenneth Miller, Howard Hill, Tom Whitman and Woody Benson. Serving as honorary pallbearers are lifelong friends, Rob Stagner, Tommy Saxon, Leonard Sanders, Roger Byers, Danny James, and the Harris County Senior Softball players.
