Robert Edmund Wyatt, 62, of Baytown passed from this life, surrounded by his loved ones, on Wednesday afternoon, August 3, 2005. He was born July 2, 1943 in Houston, Texas to Rev. Charles E. Wyatt and Elizabeth Kitcher Wyatt. He graduated from Sabinal High School in 1961 and attended Howard Payne College, where he met Glenda Rodgers of Highlands. They married on June 20, 1964 and lived most of their married life in Highlands and Baytown.
Robert had a strong faith in Jesus Christ, and in 1973 was ordained a deacon at First Baptist Church of Highlands. At the time of his death, he was an usher/greeter at Second Baptist Church of Baytown, a fitting service for someone who loved people and never met a stranger.
In April 2002, Robert retired from ExxonMobil Refinery in Baytown after 28 years of employment. He loved to hunt, fish, camp, travel, work in his yard, and spend time with his three grandsons (ages 4, 2, and 1). His favorite pastime was buying items at garage sales, repairing them, and reselling them at Winnie Trade Days.
Robert is survived by his wife of 41 years, Glenda Rodgers Wyatt of Baytown; his four children, Robyn Wyatt Hollimon (and husband Scott) of Burleson; Robert (Chuck) Wyatt (and wife Donna) of Prairie Lea; Wendy Wyatt Hesse (and husband Charles) of Tyler; and Wes Wyatt of Memphis, Tennessee. He is also survived by his grandsons, Preston and Ryan Wyatt of Prairie Lea and Christian Hesse of Tyler; his sister, Charlotte Rickenbaker of Chester, Virginia; and his sister-in-law, Lanelle Weatherly of Baytown.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 7 at Navarre Funeral Home, 2444 Rollingbrook Drive, Baytown, Texas. Funeral services will be held at Second Baptist Church, 500 E. James, Baytown at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 8 with Rev. Tommy Clements and Rev. Tim Edwards officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Pat Henry, David Sharp, Richard Dietrich, Harry Stewart, Leo Cole, and Glenn Schmitt. Interment will follow at White Cemetery in Highlands.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at the CVICU unit at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston for their efforts and excellent care of Robert during the last month of his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Youth Camp Fund at Second Baptist Church, 500 E. James, Baytown, TX 77521.
