Russell Steven Craig, 61, a long-time resident of Baytown, Texas passed away on June 28, 2021, after battling an illness. His mother, Judi Craig; his children, Kyle and Kali Craig; his wife, Susan Craig; and his sister, Jeri DeFeo and his friends will forever miss him.
Russell was generous and passionate and was happiest when he was with his family. He was extremely funny and quick-witted and had an infectious laugh. Russell was also a die-hard sports fan, who rarely missed watching his beloved Astros and Texans and UT Longhorns. There was little doubt about where Russell would be on the weekends during football season.
Russell was born in Austin, Texas on March 7, 1960. He was the first child to Jerry West and Judi Craig and grew up in Baytown, Texas. Russell was a handsome child and even did some modeling when he was young. He was extremely bright and outgoing and an extremely gifted tennis player. He was so promising that his father started the first racket club in Baytown, where Russell worked and practiced. He was one of the top men’s players in Texas in high school and received a scholarship to play tennis for North Texas University in Denton, Texas.
Russell was always outgoing and friendly and a natural salesman. He had studied computer science in college and quickly became a standout in selling computers and IT software. He worked for various computer and software companies over his career and was always one of the top salespersons. Russell was a devoted husband, who sacrificed much to care for his wife when she developed Alzheimer’s disease. He was also immensely proud of his children: Kyle, who is a Marine and staff sergeant based in San Jose, California, and Kali, who works for Lamar Elementary in Baytown.
Russell is preceded in death by his father, Jerry Craig of Junction, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Susan Craig of Baytown; his children, Kyle Craig and wife, Kayla, of San Jose, California and Kali Craig of Baytown, Texas; his mother, Judi Craig of Baytown; his sister, Jeri Craig DeFeo and husband John DeFeo of Dallas; his stepmother, Betty Craig of Junction, Texas; and grandchildren, Caydo and Kash Lee. Russell’s family would like to thank Chris Klinker for his compassionate care during Russell’s illness.
