Vernon Odell Johnson

Vernon Odell Johnson, 83, of Deer Park, Texas was born May 12, 1924 in Troy, Texas to Elmer and Mrytle Johnson and passed away Monday, June 18, 2007 at home. He was a World War II veteran retiring from the Army after 23 years and Ethyl Corporation after 34 years of service.

He was a loving husband; father, grandfather, and great grandfather and he will be missed dearly by all.

His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Tuesday 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at 10:00 A. M. at Navarre Funeral Home. Rev. Danny Biddy will be officiating. Following the funeral the family will travel to Holland, Texas for graveside services at Holland Cemetery for a 4:00 P. M. Graveside Service. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Sis Gubosh, Fonnie Smythe and Bernice McNeal. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nelda Yvonne Johnson; daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Don Ellis of Deer Park, sons and daughters-in-laws, Barney and Lonna Johnson, Vernon, Jr. and Pam Johnson all of Old River-Winfree, Doug and Dorothy Johnson of LaMarque, Texas; grandchildren, Wendy and Wayne Knight, Leanne Bates, Sandy and Hugo Gutierrez, Kerry and Tiffany Johnson, Julia and Kenneth Felice, Krystal Urbani, Craig and Nikki Straight and Clifford and Heather Straight; 18 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He has two brothers, R. C. Johnson of Deer Park, Texas and Earl Johnson of Kansas.

His family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Chris Hays for his special attention. They also want to thank the outstanding nursing staff at Triumph Hospital of Baytown and St. James House for their compassion during his final days.
