Alene was born on March 10, 1937, in Beaumont, Texas, to the late Hardy S. Rutledge and Mabel (Snider) Rutledge. She was born and raised in Beaumont and made it her lifelong home. On June 9, 1955, she married the love of her life, Ray “Buddy” Gallier. Together they shared 67 wonderful years of marriage until Buddy’s passing in 2022, building a beautiful life and raising six children side by side.
Alene dedicated 19 years of service to the Beaumont ISD Food Service Department before retiring on May 30, 1998. A true homemaker at heart, she found her greatest joy caring for her family. She loved cooking, making jelly, gardening, and took great pride in her plants. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, especially on Sundays; preparing a good old-fashioned country lunch and gathering everyone around the table for food, laughter, and fellowship.
Alene enjoyed good Cajun music and classic country, like the songs of Merle Haggard. Family gatherings were never complete without a game of “Pass the Ace,” which she loved playing with her family and friends. These moments - simple, joyful, and full of love, defined the beautiful life she and Buddy created together.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Ray “Buddy” Gallier; her sons, Raymond H. Gallier and Albert M. Gallier; her sisters, Betty, Helen, Patricia Ann, and Doris; and her brothers, Hardy Jr., George, Earl Douglas, Jackie, Joseph, and Leroy.
Alene is survived by her children, Debra Jones and husband Bill, Linda Gallier, Jeff Gallier and partner Susan, and David Gallier and wife Liz; her grandchildren, Christy and husband Chris, Joey and wife Candace, Sarah, Kyle and wife Megan, Leighia, Josh and wife Kayla, Taner, Taylor and husband Luke, and Macy; her great-grandchildren, Austin, Addison, Avery, Catey, Paisley, Sadie, Joshua, Jaxon, Caleb, Colton, Raylan, Aiden, Aubrie, Adalyn, Taylor, Harper, Laiken, Grant, and Sutton; her sisters, Snow and Dorothy; along with numerous other loving family members and dear friends.
Alene was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a cherished grandmother and great-grandmother, and a treasured sister and friend. Her kindness, faith, and unwavering love for her family will be remembered always. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Barbara (Bobbie) Hammon and Carolyn Lee, two very special people in her life. They also wish to thank all family and friends for their prayers, calls, and visits during her final days. A special thank-you is also extended to the compassionate staff at Best Hospice Care for their devoted care of Alene.
