

Berta Irene Evans Wilson passed away at Harbor Hospital in Beaumont on Sunday, October 12, 2014. She was born November 18, 1923 in Centerville, Texas. She married Shannon Wilson of Newton, Texas, in 1945, and they settled in Beaumont.
Irene worked for Cable Meat Market, later Quick-Serve Meats, before retiring in 1994. Customers remembered her as the pretty, hardworking brunette behind the counter who made sure they got the very best cuts of meat.
Irene was happiest when she was busy and helping someone else, and in 1996 she joined RSVP, a local senior citizens’ volunteer program, and assisted there for 18 years. Through RSVP, she provided service to the Humane Society, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Shots Across Texas, Some Other Place, and all special RSVP events. Irene never turned down a request to help and even worked on projects at home. She was also an active and dedicated member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
Irene is survived by a son, John Howard Wilson and wife Judi; daughter, Bonnie Sue Wilson; grandsons, Shannon Andrew Wilson and wife Bonnie, Chad Edward Chatelain, Kenneth Linsley and Samuel Linsley; great-grandsons Zachery and Dylan Lundy; and former daughter-in-law Judy Linsley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Shannon; parents, Necie Etheridge and Willard Theron Evans; sister, Esther Comer; and brother, Dewey Leslie Evans, who was killed in action in World War II.
A visitation will be held at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Beaumont on Tuesday, October 14, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Services will be held at Forest Lawn Funeral Home Wednesday, October 15, at 2:00 p.m., with interment to follow.
