Eugene Oliver Munson, 99, of Beaumont, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025.Born on February 10, 1926, Eugene "Gene" was the son of Theodore (Theo) Christopher Munson and Anna Nosek Munson. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Theolyn Worthey; his brother, Jerry Munson; his beloved wife, Dolores Evelyn Munson; and his daughters, Marilyn Morvant, Julie Munson, and Susan Caffery. Gene is survived by his children Sandy (Marty) Roy, Gail Ellington, and Chris (SeSee) Munson; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Gene earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering from the United States Merchant Marine Academy. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater and later continued his service in the Navy Reserves for over 30 years, retiring with the rank of Commander. Following his military service, he enjoyed a long and fulfilling career as a Mechanical Engineer with Sun Oil Company, where he retired after many years of dedicated work.
Known for his kind spirit and warm presence, Gene was loved and admired by all who knew him. His accomplishments were many, but he considered his greatest legacy to be his role as a devoted son, brother, uncle, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
For the past several decades, he was affectionately known as “Poppie,” a title he wore with pride and joy.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 4455 Pine St., Beaumont, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to local animal shelters, rescues, or non-profit organizations, honoring Gene’s lifelong love for all creatures great and small.
