

Richard E. “Dick” Underwood, age 73, passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2005 in Port Arthur, TX and his wife, Janice Lee Underwood, age 76, later died in Trinity, NC on January 30, 2014. The couple was married on February 24, 1990 and lived in Orange, TX.
Dick Underwood was born on September 4, 1932 to William Carl, Sr. and Gertrude Nann (Bowman) Underwood in Cedar Grove, West Virginia. He was a resident of Orange, TX for 59 years. He served in the United States Navy CBs during the Korean War. He was a life member of the VFW Post in Port Arthur, a member of the American Legion and retired from Firestone in Orange.
Janice Underwood was born on July 6, 1937 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Clifford and Sarah Carmichael in Orange, TX. She was actively involved VFW Women’s Auxiliary during her time in Texas. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, cooking, traveling and gardening. She worked for Skinners and owned and operated several bars in Nebraska before meeting her husband and becoming a homemaker.
Dick’s survivors include a son, Richard Mark Underwood of Orange; daughter, Carlene Fitch of Beaumont, Karen Underwood of Bronson, TX, and Patricia Lynn Boozer of Orange; step-son, Michael O’Dell of Orange; step-daughters, Nancy Elizabeth Freitas of North Carolina and Jamie Lynn Williams of Orange; brothers, William Carl Underwood, Jr. of Burkeville and Gordon Underwood of Austin; sister, Betty Bowman of Newark, Ohio; 25 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Janice’s survivors include her sister Pamela Parker and husband Douglas, brother Melvin Carmichael, son Michael O’Dell, daughter Jamie Williams, son in-law Johnnie Freitas, stepsons Mark Underwood, John O’Dell, step-daughters, Kelly Mullet, Joni Fuchs, Carlene Underwood, Karen Underwood, Patricia Boozer, 21 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren
The Underwood’s will be inurned on May 17, 2014 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
