

Richard enjoyed football, baseball and rollerblading growing up as a young boy. As a teen he became a member of St Hyacinth’s Knights of Columbus in Deer Park and played trombone in the Deer Park High School Marching Band where he graduated in 2004.
Following graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corp. Richard trained as an electronics technician working on fighter planes and served overseas in Iraq in 2008. He served 5 years in the Marine Corps, rejoining civilian life in 2009. He worked construction, as a pipefitter’s helper, before landing a job as an electronics technician with Samsung Industries in Austin, beginning 2010. He was with them for 7 years, enjoying life in Austin, Texas. He then left Texas, moving to Malta, New York for a new opportunity in the semi-conductor field. Next, he progressed to a position with Micron in Manassas, Virginia, where he worked for 2 years, before his next adventure took him to Goleta, CA (near Santa Barbara). He was excited to be working at Lockheed Martin but worked there only for three months before his passing.
Richard loved music of all types, especially “Red Dirt Country”. He enjoyed attending concerts, music festivals, and brought songs to life in his weekly Karaoke visits. He was an avid fan of the Houston Texans and Houston Astros and enjoyed fishing and hunting and loved cooking and was a great cook. He shared all these many gifts and talents with friends and family.
Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Esmeralda Chavez.
Surviving Richard are his father, James R. Chavez and his wife Cathy of Beaumont; grandparents, Kay Chavez of Athens, TX and Silverio Bautista of Weslaco, TX; sister Lauren Loza and her husband Pedro of China, TX; niece and nephews, Xavier Loza, Jaylene Loza, Elan Loza; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation for Richard will be at Forest Lawn Funeral Home on Friday, January 7, 2022, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a Rosary Service at 6:00 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 8, 2022, at St. Ann Catholic Church, 2715 Calder Avenue, Beaumont, Texas 77702.
