It is with profound sadness that the family of Richard Boyer Fitzhugh announces his passing on November 11, 2024, at the age of 78. Born on April 22, 1946, to Ovie and Hazel Fitzhugh, Richard led a life defined by hard work, service, and love for his family.
Richard graduated from Freer High School in 1965 where he excelled as an all-around athlete. After high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps and proudly served his country. A man of many talents, Richard had a dynamic career. In his early years, he owned an oil company and when the oil bust of the late 1980s reshaped his path, he relocated to Las Vegas and embarked on a successful career in the casino industry.
Richard held numerous roles in the casino business, including Pit Boss, Slot Manager, Vice President of Slot Operations, and Senior Vice President of Slot Operations. He retired as Senior Vice President of Slot Strategy, earning recognition as one of the leading experts in the field.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Fitzhugh; his parents, Ovie and Hazel Fitzhugh; and his brothers, Jerry Fitzhugh and Tim Fitzhugh.
He leaves behind a loving family:
Children and spouses: Kelli Blanchard (Danny), Brian Fitzhugh (Linette), Brandi Meyer (Jim), Chad Fitzhugh, and Cari Anne Fairweather (Jerry).
Grandchildren: Kristopher Krischke, Meagan Gowdy, Ashley Smith, Mitchell Blanchard, Kolton Fitzhugh, Tucker Fitzhugh, Kaylee Fitzhugh, Avery Meyer, Addison Meyer, Alexandra Meyer, Liva Meyer, Hanna Fairweather, Gavin Fairweather, Fallon Fairweather, and Maddox Fairweather.
Great-grandchildren: Peyton Gowdy, Matthew Gowdy, Ovie McDougald, Aria Blanchard, Raymond Gowdy, Evrain Krischke, Zane Blanchard, and Darcy Smith.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Cathedral Basilica Catholic Church, 2011 Church St., Galveston, TX, on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends starting at 10:00 AM, with the Rosary to follow at 10:30 AM.
Richard’s unwavering work ethic, dedication to his family, and impactful career will be remembered by all who knew and loved him. May he rest in eternal peace.
