Mr. Melvin was born October 15, 1924 in Okaloosa, Florida to his parents Teab and Gladys Sanford Melvin who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his wife of sixty-two years, Dorothy Melvin, three brothers; Leo Melvin, Elton Melvin, and Winfred Melvin. He is survived by his son; Richard Melvin and wife Linda of Silsbee, grandson; Jeremy Melvin and wife Shawna, two great grandchildren; Allie and Jackson Melvin.
William was Baptist by faith and attended Crestwood Baptist Church in Lumberton. He served in the United States Navy during WWII as a Fireman First Class SV-6 and after being discharged worked as a bus driver for the City of Beaumont before going to work for Mobil Oil Refinery as an Operator until he retired. Before his wife passed away they both enjoyed extensive traveling and fishing.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday July 5, 2016 from 10:00a.m. until the funeral service time of 11:00 a.m. at the Crestwood Baptist Church in Lumberton with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park by Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Beaumont.
