Williasteen Hunter was born on July 23, 1948 in Beaumont, Texas to the loving parents of Esteen and Leroy Hunter. She graduated from Charlton Pollard High School in 1967 and then relocated to Omaha, Nebraska to enroll in the Job Corp Program to obtain training as a nurse. She later moved to Dallas, Texas and was blessed with her only son Rodney Hunter in April 1973. Williasteen decided to relocate to Beaumont, Texas to be closer to family to raise her only son. She loved the Lord and dedicated her life to being a true servant. She was a faithful member and volunteer of Cathedral of Faith Baptist Church. She lived in Beaumont, Texas for over 40+ years until her address changed to Heaven.
Williasteen believed in education and always instilled it in those around her that “once you get it (a degree), no one can take it away from you.” Wiliasteen received an Associate of Science in Substance Abuse Counseling from Lamar University. Over the years, she worked in several different careers as a nurse for Veteran’s Affairs, a manicurist, a retail specialist, a call center representative for the Beaumont Police Department and a substitute teacher with the Beaumont Independent School District and Port Arthur Independent School District. Williasteen had a passion and a love for helping people, she volunteered as an advocator for the Child Appointed Special Advocate (CASA). Also, she founded and was the Director of the Disabilities Outreach Ministry at Cathedral of Faith Baptist Church.
Williasteen spoke powerful and passionately about being who she was in spite of what the world saw. You simply could not put her in the box, because she was determined to live her life outside the box, in order to stand for what and who she believed in, no matter what the circumstances presented. She was a fighter’s favorite fighter. She was dedicated to showing the world who she was, in spite of what she looked like, because if you stared at her long enough, she would give you something to stare at, that you would certainty take with you for the rest of your life. She operated on another level, leaving you to forever ask yourself one question – “HOW DOES SHE DO IT?” She did it by faith and trusting in the Lord, despite the situation or doctor’s report, she believed the report of the Lord until she reported home.
At 6:45 AM on October 12, 2013, God said it was time for Ms. Williasteen Hunter to rest, “well done my good and faithful servant”. Williasteen was beautiful, loving, tenacious, determined, humorous, passionate, spiritual and an inspiration to every person she met.
Her father Leroy Hunter preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memories, her mother Esteen Hunter; her son, Rodney Hunter and wife Kesha of Arlington, TX. Two sisters, Genieva Turner and Barbara Lightfoot; and one brother Michael Hunter and wife (name), all of Beaumont, TX. One niece and three nephews, Tara Turner, Kevin Turner, Jarvis Hunter and Marcus Brown all of Beaumont, TX. Two great nephews, Trelan McCray and Jayden Hunter both of Beaumont, TX.
