Alix is survived by her husband, Raymond Hare, and her three children, Allyson (May) McGinnis (spouse Sean and stepdaughter Erin), Darin May (spouse Donna) and Joslin (May) Angell (spouse Doug, and daughters Lindsey, Emily and Kayla).
Alix was born on June 15, 1938 in Erie, Pennsylvania to Alexander and Eleanor Mettlach. She was raised in Pennsylvania, and spent time in Florida before she moved to Oregon to attend University of Oregon. She married Marvin May in 1962 and moved Walla Walla, Washington, then to Portland, Oregon and finally ended up in Bend in 1968. Over six years, the couple welcomed three children into their home and Alix taught them compassion, kindness and hard work. Her children remember her as a strong, caring and thoughtful woman, and a wonderful mother who encouraged each of them to pursue their dreams and goals. She moved to Beaverton, Oregon in 1972 where she began working in the Beaverton School District. She met and married Ray Hare in 1976. Ray and Alix celebrated their 40th anniversary in October 2016.
Alix was a hard-working woman who was involved with the Girl Scouts when her two daughters were younger, the Catholic church in the communities where she lived over the years, and volunteered for many years at the Cedar Mill Community Library. She was a dedicated member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, where she was involved in the weekly practice of Adoration prior to health issues in 2011.
Alix passed away peacefully after an unexpected illness. She will be remembered as a kind and generous woman, a wonderful person to her many friends, and loving wife and mother.
A Memorial Catholic Mass will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Donations to her favorite charities, in lieu of flowers, may be sent to:
