In 1941, Alverda married George Radie in St. Louis and began a 71-year married partnership. They moved to Fort Dodge, Iowa and then Minneapolis where Alverda turned years of volunteer work with the Red Cross into a wonderful career as Director. Alverda and George retired to Sun City, AZ and came to Oregon in 2005 to live near their daughter Kathy and family.
Her great joy and commitment was to her family, and she spent a great deal of time and energy being mom and grandma. Alverda also liked to play golf and bowl, do cross-stitch projects and knit Afghans, and was active in her church. Her skills as a cook (especially her pies) were also appreciated by her family and friends.
Alverda was preceded in death by her husband George in 2013, and by one brother and one sister.
She will be missed and remembered by her daughter Kathy Radie-Gabler and husband David of Portland, and by her granddaughter Natalie Gabler of Valdez, AK.
