A graveside service will be July 17, 2010, for Carol Elaine Hertel, at 1:00 p.m. at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in The Dalles. Carol died July 8, 2010, at the age of 80. She was born in Farnam, Nebraska on April 25, 1930 to Dean and Mabel Rice.
She grew up in Farnam and graduated from Farnam High School in 1948.
She and her husband owned and operated the Vernonia Drug Store during the 1960's. Carol moved to Forest Grove in 1971 and worked for First Interstate Bank in Forest Grove working for the branch manager as an administrative assistant where she worked for 10 years.
She and her husband, Horace, were married in 1955; he died in 1990. In 1991 Carol moved to Beaverton.
Survivors include her son, Mark Hertel; daughter Diane Monjay; 8 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; borther, Dale Rice. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rhonda Jean and her sister, Marjorie Farnstrom.
