

Evelyn Mary Sohler was born in Hillsboro, Oregon. After graduating from St. Mary of the Valley Academy she married her high-school sweetheart, Jerry Fitzpatrick, in 1940. She worked as a welder at the Kaiser Swan Island Shipyards in Portland, Oregon in 1944. After raising six children, Evelyn and Jerry owned and operated several motels and became very active in the Motel Association. Upon retirement, they built their dream home on the oceanfront at Cannon Beach. In the 20 years they lived at Cannon Beach they hosted many family gatherings. They enjoyed volunteering for the Haystack Awareness Group dedicated to the preservation of wild life on Haystack Rock. After 60 years of marriage, Jerry died and Evelyn continued her life journey moving to Creekside Village, and finally to Maryville Nursing Home in Beaverton, Oregon. Survivors include daughters, Maureen Rinella (Larry), of Beaverton, Alice (Dennis Graham), of Colorado, Donna Rogers of Beaverton, and son, Ed Fitzpatrick of Tigard; one sister, Kathryn Newman of Hillsboro. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry in 2000, and sons, David in 2005, and Larry in 2007. The family suggests remembrances to Maryville Nursing Home in Beaverton.
